To
preserve, honor and build upon the heritage of Kendallville Indiana.
On Monday, July 27, 2009, the
Kendallville Heritage Association meeting was held at 6:00 p.m. in the
Kendallville Public Library conference room. In attendance were: Ray
Scott, Suzanne Handshoe, Hertha Meyer, Eric Daniels and Becky Daniels.
Minutes of the June meeting were approved as written.
Suzanne Handshoe reported on the status of the Historic
Preservation Commission. The Law & Ordinance Committee is
getting comments from several different groups, such as EID and
Redevelopement Commission, to make sure the ordinance is not too
strict.
Ray Scott reported for Tom Leedy that the Thrive project is in the
assessment phase. We will know more on how our organization will fit in
with this project once the assessment is finished.
Eric Daniels gave a status report on the KHA website. At this time we
have had 22 visitors. They are most likely people from KHA viewing the
website. There have been a couple hits from Canada, the Philipines and
China. At this time we need to get a concise paragraph on the homepage
that will help us to get hits through the search engines. This will
help attract more traffic to the website. Once the group decides that
the pages are set up the way we want, the next step is to start
entering the content for each page. Eric will need to have articles and
photographs sent to him for uploading. We just have to make sure that
people know that they need to send in not only the photographs, but a
writeup to go with them.
Ray Scott reported that he has the 2009 application notice for the
Amelia Frehse Trust Fund disbursements. At this time, we do not have a
need to justify submitting an application. The application due date is
October 30.
Suzanne Handshoe shared that Scott Derby has been going through past
minutes so that they can be digitized. He found that in 1933 the DAR
presented a gavel that was made from the first log home in
Kendallville. The gavel has been found and it will be mounted with a
plaque in a shadow box for display.
The next meeting will be 6:00 p.m., Monday, September 28, 2009 at the
Kendallville Public Library, Meeting Rooms 1&2 . Meeting
adjourned.
